A Few Sketches and Moving On...

The two days scheduled to work on my daughter's costume was extended out of necessity. The costume took three days to complete, then there was the two days at the anime convention. It was our first and it was... interesting? different? Not sure what the right word is... unexpected. How about... inappropriate (considering my daughter is only twelve and the average age seemed to be a good bit older). She had a great time hanging with her friends that we went with; for me, it was definitely a learning experience. She entered the costume contest and won the craftsmanship award - sweeeeet! And, I did get a cool idea for a Halloween costume :-).

Whatever else it was, it was a refresher; and I completed the electric guitar painting earlier this week. I'll be taking pictures of it soon to post. Now, it's on to the next painting... I was definitely still in the mood for music paintings, so I sketched out a few ideas; here are a couple...

And sketched out my next music painting on a 30" x 24" canvas...

I'm thinking I may follow it up with two 18" x 36" canvases of the other sketches. Hmmmm...

AHHHHHH #*&$*(#*&@ .......

I'm working on a new guitar painting... electric this time {sigh}. And it's really driving me crazy. This painting is fighting me every step of the way. This is what I started with...

And, this is where I am...

The firy background was not what was planned -- was not even a consideration when I started it. I guess the fight stems from me not following where the painting wants to go. The last painting I completed, "Instrumental Progression", was nearly effortless. Everything went smoothly... it was a belting it out sing-a-long to one of my playlists the entire time. With this one, for the last two days I've turned the music off... not a good sign. I'm closer to being happy with it, but not quite there yet.

I'm taking off from painting today and tomorrow to work on an anime costume for my daughter. It'll be a welcomed breather to clear my mind.

New Music Painting - "INSTRUMENTAL PROGRESSION"

It has been quite a while since I've posted anything. After working on landscapes recently, it was time to get back to music paintings. Even though it's already sold, here's the last one I completed.

Music Note Paintings

Well, the small format, 8" x 8", music note paintings have been listed. The photos still didn't come out as I would have liked- the black and texturing was really screwing with me. But... at this point, it's either use the photos as is OR use the paintings to beat the camera and lights! These can be purchased in my Etsy store.

Moving right along... here's another I've recently completed...

TITLE… “ACOUSTIC STRUMMING”
SIZE… 36” x 40” x 1-1/2” Total Size
MEDIUM… Acrylic
DATE… 2010
DESCRIPTION… This is an new original painting hand-painted using professional grade artist's paints on a 1 ½" deep gallery-wrapped canvas stretched over a custom-made wooden frame. Paintings from this series are always so much fun to paint. To paint these the music has to be extremely loud and energetic. Light texturing was added to the black background areas and colored "strumming vibes" on the right side of the painting.

Thanks looking at my work... feel free to drop by for a visit anytime! Too bad I can't offer you a drink of the alcoholic variety when you visit :.)

And… a sneak peak of what I’m working on listing now…

I’ve completed four of these smaller format (8” x 8”) paintings (each with a different colored note). But, I’m having the hardest time with these photos! Hopefully the technical difficulties will be worked out today and I’ll have them listed soon.

Cold-Weather Inspiration

Every once in a while I like to get out with the camera to take inspiration photos for my paintings. According to the local weather guy, it’s predicted to drop to the low 20s for the next three nights. What the #$%&!!! Don’t they know this is South Louisiana?
Right now, it’s extremely too cold for me to go on any inspirational journeys.

So last night I decided to go on my journey through magazines – hell, I needed to throw some out anyway. Here’s what I clipped…

All of the clippings are a bit off of what I’m working on now, especially with the warm color palette. Now, I’m working on a set of small-format music note paintings and a large 36” x 40” guitar painting – all from my "Dynamic Acoustics" series which is centered around bright, vibrant colors. (I’ll put them up in the next day or so.) But… I’m really loving that COW – well, the horns really. Hmmm… I was planning on doing a couple landscapes next. Hmmm…

All Packed Up and Ready to Go!

A couple days ago I celebrated my first sale on Etsy (thank you, Liz)! While I was packaging the painting for the trip from South Louisiana to Colorado, I decided to take of few pictures to show how my paintings are packaged for their journey.

First, the back is signed; hanging wire added; and packing slip, COA, and thank you letter are slipped in.

Next, the painting is wrapped in bubble wrap with the edges getting a double bubble wrap whammy to make sure they’re protected. Maybe a little overkill here, but the extra protection makes me feel better. The bubble wrap gets taped to itself with a few pieces of clear tape to keep it secure.

It’s placed in a custom-made box that it only slightly larger than the size of the painting – wouldn’t want there to be any wiggle room in the box. The box is taped; labeled with a couple “Fragile” stickers and shipping label; and an “open here” note is written. Packaging is basically the same for all paintings, but multiple panel paintings get a bit of extra protection between each panel and smaller format paintings on hardboard having different hanging material.

Now, it’s ready to go! Just have to wait for the UPS guy.
